Joan Semmel: A Selection, presented at Gruenebaum Gallery at 38 East 57th Street in New York, featured works from the artist’s Locker-Room series (1988–91), which captured women engaged in various beautification rituals in gym locker rooms. These paintings marked the beginning of the artist’s interest in the aging female figure.
