Regina Silveira and Valeska Soares are included in the group exhibition Dialogues: Women Artists in the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (MARCO), Mexico, on view from March 28–September 28, 2025.
MARCO's press release follows:
El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey presents Dialogues: Women Artists in the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection , a journey through the work of the most important artists in the history of modern and contemporary art, based on one of the most important private collections in the world.
The exhibition offers an opportunity to study and reclaim the space of women artists in recent history, giving a visible place to their contributions in artistic practices, where their male colleagues are often more recognized. The exhibition is curated by Taiyana Pimentel, director of MARCO; and Sergio Fontanella, director of operations and collections at the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO).
Born in Cuba and based in Miami, USA, Ella Fontanals-Cisneros is one of today's most important collectors. Dedicated to business from a young age, with a career that developed in Venezuela, she opened a gallery at the age of 20 and, in the 1970s, began her own collection. The collection totals 2,700 pieces and is notable for its focus on modern and contemporary art, as well as for its significant percentage of works by Latin American artists.
Drawing on her vision as an international patron and collector, Fontanals-Cisneros founded the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) in 2002, an organization dedicated to promoting contemporary art through a scholarship program and other projects. However, this exhibition focuses on Ella Fontanals-Cisneros's private collection, not that of CIFO.
This exhibition explores a theme never before addressed in the collection: the resounding presence of women artists in avant-garde art movements from the second half of the 20th century to the present. The selection focuses on artists such as Marina Abramović, Lygia Clark, Ana Mendieta, Bárbara Kruger, and others who have significantly impacted and contributed to art discourses through their work. A total of 160 works by 71 artists from 23 countries are presented, encompassing various formats, including painting, photography, video, installation, performance documentation, drawing, and sculpture.
