Amid the difficulties of the pandemic, opportunities have opened up in the visual arts circuit. O GLOBO asked collectors which new artists have sparked their interest since last year. The names mentioned point to an increased attention from the circuit and institutions to artists who work on issues related to racial, gender, and territorial debates, within an assessment of the historical gaps in collections.
With works ranging from around R$1,000 to R$50,000, considered entry-level prices, these artists also share a common engagement on social media. Fabio Szwarcwald, a collector of contemporary art and executive director of MAM-Rio, sees issues related to the most pressing debates occupying spaces in private and institutional collections.
