Continuing our panoramic research on contemporary Black Brazilian women artists , we have selected another list of 15 names you need to know. Many of them create, in artistic environments, possibilities for life they have not yet experienced. They elaborate narratives distant from stereotypes of violence, understanding that the aura of affection transmitted in their works is also a political act.
As long as it is still necessary to list productions like these to deconstruct the racist and patriarchal structures that shape us, we will continue to update new lists. Beyond historical reparation, we understand the importance of pluralism and encouraging the consumption of art by our contemporaries while they are still alive. Therefore, all the names below are of artists born after 1970 who are on the rise or have already established themselves in the art world.
Marcia Falcão
The artist focuses particularly on the language of painting, where her marked gestures and thick paint articulate issues concerning the female body. She draws from her personal experience as a woman born in 1985 in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, traversed by a landscape that is both beautiful and violent. Furthermore, she appropriates iconographic images from art history and always creates figurative compositions that question stereotypes between symbols that mark the past and the daily life of the city.

Muitas delas criam, em ambientes plásticos, possibilidades de vida que ainda não experienciaram. Elas elaboram narrativas distantes dos estereótipos de violência, entendendo que a aura de afeto transmitida em seus trabalhos são também um ato político.
Enquanto ainda se fizer necessário listar pontualmente produções como essas para desconstruir as estruturas racistas e patriarcais que nos moldam, continuaremos atualizando novas listas. Para além de uma reparação histórica, nós entendemos a importância do pluralismo e de incentivar o consumo de arte dos nossos contemporâneos ainda em vida. Por isso, todos os nomes abaixo são de artistas nascidas depois de 1970 e que estão em ascensão ou que já se consolidaram no circuito.

A artista se debruça especialmente na linguagem da pintura, onde seus gestos marcados e tinta espessa articulam problemáticas do corpo feminino. Ela parte de sua experiência pessoal como mulher nascida em 1985 na periferia do Rio de Janeiro, atravessada por uma paisagem dubiamente bela e violenta. Além disso, ela também se apropria de imagens iconográficas da história da arte e sempre cria composições figurativas que questionam estereótipos entre símbolos que marcam o passado e o cotidiano da cidade.
