From musicals to museum exhibits and speaking events to holiday celebrations, the new fall arts season in Charlotte is full of opportunities to explore. The Charlotte Observer recently spoke to leaders at 11 arts and culture organizations to hear their thoughts on the top events, exhibits and activities as the 2026-27 arts season begins. Here’s what they highlighted as the “can’t-miss” events of the new season.
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art: Latin American printmakers
At the Bechtler, “Making an Impression: Pioneering Latin American Printmakers" debuts in late September. The exhibition presents a quartet of multigenerational artists who helped redefine printmaking through material and perceptual innovation, the museum said.
The exhibit begins Sept. 26, and among the collection’s highlights are “Octopus Wrap” by Brazilian artist Regina Silveria and Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo’s “Hombre en la Ventana.”
Printmaking as artistic invention helps push the medium’s boundaries.
For instance, “Octopus Wrap” is a large-scale vinyl installation that will go up on gallery walls and looks like tiny car tracks zipping around the building, complete with small toy cars on the walls.
