Márcia Falcão's Malandra não para [Malandra Doesn't Stop] series (2025–present) features small-scale portraits rendered with quick, exuberant gestures. Direct gazes emerge through thick layers of oil paint, oil stick, and sgraffito, while facial features dissolve into energetic linear smears of pigment. The malandra is a streetwise female trickster—charming, rebellious, and closely associated with samba culture. In invoking this figure, Falcão celebrates wit, resilience, and perseverance in the face of hardship. Elsewhere in the series, the titular protagonist appears as a shapeshifting full-bodied figure whose form shimmers in and out of focus, embodying perpetual transformation and self-invention.
