Monumentais [Monumental] : 2023 – present

Márcia Falcão's Monumentais [Monumental] series (2023–present) asks how might the body become landscape? Monumental figures rendered in a single tonality envelop smaller bodies painted in contrasting hues. Extreme foreshortening, unusual vantage points, and a dissolution between figure and ground transform these larger bodies into expansive corporeal and psychological terrains. Smaller gestural figures perch, crouch, and nestle within these immersive environments. Titles such as Nevasca [Blizzard] and Espuma na arrebentação [Foam in the Surf] reinforce the collapsed boundaries between body and landscape, while others, including Cuidado [Care/Be Careful], evoke the intertwined experiences of maternal care, vulnerability, and precarity.
